Jack Gurevitch Drafted in Third Round by St. Louis Cardinals

First baseman selected with 89th pick after batting .371 with 17 homers, earning All-WCC First Team honors in 2025

ATLANTA — Junior first baseman Jack Gurevitch was selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the third round of the 2025 MLB Draft (89th overall pick) on Sunday evening, marking the 36th consecutive year in which at least one Torero was drafted by a big league club.

A native of Pacific Palisades, California, Gurevitch picked up All-WCC First Team (2025), All-WCC Second Team (2024), All-WCC Freshman Team (2023), and two WCC Player of the Week honors across an accomplished college career that saw him develop into one of the most fearsome hitters in the West Coast Conference.

Gurevitch hit .326 (198-for-607) across 161 career college games, scoring 129 runs alongside 34 doubles, six triples, 32 home runs, 120 RBIs, 100 walks, and 13 stolen bases. He helped lead San Diego to three West Coast Conference Championships and a win in an NCAA Regional during his time as a Torero, including the 2024 WCC Regular-Season and Tournament titles as well as the 2025 WCC Regular-Season crown.

His finest season at USD came this spring (2025), when he batted .371 (85-for-229) with 16 doubles, two triples, 17 home runs, 56 RBIs, 35 walks, and five stolen bases across 56 games. He played a key role in the Toreros' remarkable run to the 2025 WCC Tournament Championship Final by hammering out a WCC Tournament-record 11 hits at Las Vegas Ballpark, including four home runs.

Gurevitch is the 138th Torero to be drafted by an MLB team and is the program's 13th-highest-drafted player ever. He is the sixth USD player to be selected by St. Louis, joining Brycen Mautz (2022, pick No. 59), Jesse Jenner (2015, pick No. 221), Victor Sanchez (2010, pick No. 799), Mike McCoy (2002, pick No. 1,032), and 2012 USD Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Kevin Herde (1993, pick No. 1,068).

He is the 155th player in USD history to either have his name called in the MLB Draft or sign with a Major League team, a span that dates back to 1964.
