Official Practices Underway for USD Men's Basketball Relaunch

Toreros hit the brand-new Basketball Performance Center courts for the first official practice of the 2025-26 season

SAN DIEGO – With the walls still smelling of fresh paint, San Diego men's basketball took to the Basketball Performance Center courts for its first official practice of the 2025-26 season on Tuesday, Sept. 23.

"We're grateful to go to work every day in this wonderful, state-of-the-art facility," head coach Steve Lavin said. "The group wants to lift or elevate our basketball program so we look forward to coming to work here every day and it's a group that I really enjoy working with."

Since opening the $35M, 28,000 sq. foot Basketball Performance Center on April 22, head coach Steve Lavin – starting his fourth season at the helm of program – has welcomed in new faces, welcomed back old ones and taken large steps forward in "the relaunch" of USD men's basketball.

Lavin's roster has been overhauled with 14 newcomers, several being local products: seven transfers from different levels, a class of five talented freshmen and two players from European professional ranks

The USD non-conference schedule features an exhibition at San Diego State (Oct. 29), a trip up to future WCC opponent UC San Diego (Dec. 19) while the home slate is headlined by welcoming alum Eric Musselman and USC to the Jenny Craig Pavilion on Dec. 9.

In August, New York Knicks head coach Mike Brown headlined a star-studded group of NBA and collegiate championship-winning coaches – three of which are USD alums turned NBA head coaches – for the unprecedented USD Basketball Coaches Clinic, a sold-out event in the BPC.

Meet and join the Toreros yourself on Thursday, Oct. 16 at USD's brand-new Basketball Performance Center for the 2025 USD Basketball Tip Off Dinner. Season tickets also remain on sale for the full 2025-26 season, claim your spot in the Jenny Craig Pavilon HERE.
