LOS ANGELES — Oliver Rhoades scored in the 67th minute, but San Diego men's soccer fell 3-1 to No. 19 UCLA in a nonconference match Sunday night at Wallis Annenberg Stadium.
Sunday's meeting between the Toreros (8-4-3, 3-1-2 WCC) and UCLA (8-2-5, 3-2-3 Big Ten) was the first since 2019, when San Diego won 4-1 on the same field. The Toreros came in off back-to-back WCC wins over Pacific and Santa Clara.
Iain Wagner forced a save in the 13th minute, but UCLA went ahead in the 24th. Elijah Zelkind, who scored his first collegiate goal against Santa Clara on Wednesday, forced another save in the 34th, and the Bruins took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
UCLA added goals in the 56th and 63rd minutes to go up 3-0.
Rhoades pulled one back 4:42 later for his second goal of the season. Matteo Salcedo, who had entered the match just over two minutes earlier, set it up for his team-leading fifth assist of 2026.
Samy Kanaan hit the post in the 78th minute as San Diego looked for a second goal, and Rhoades sent a shot over the bar in the 81st.
Lucca Adams made four saves against the program where he began his college career, the last in the 90th minute. UCLA finished with a 12-11 edge in shots, and Wagner led San Diego with four, two of them on goal.
