SAN BRUNO, Calif. — San Diego volleyball's
Lauren Lynch has been named the WCC Defensive Player of the Week for a second consecutive week, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.
Her recognition gives USD a third straight week in which one of its players has been recognized (and back-to-back-to-back weeks with a Torero winning the conference's Defensive award) after she and
Emma Brewer were named WCC Defensive Player and Freshman of the Week on October 26, and
Meghan Scholz and
Kylie Munday were named the league's Defensive Player and Setter of the Week on October 19.
Lynch helped the Toreros (13-8, 8-3 WCC) stretch their win streak to six last week by piling up 37 digs over seven sets, an average of 5.29 per set, with match highs in both of San Diego's victories.
The sophomore libero had 16 in Thursday's sweep of San Francisco and 21 in Saturday's four-set win over Santa Clara, nine of those in the first set. She had no reception errors on 21 serve-receive attempts and added 14 assists, an ace and a kill. Lynch served nine straight points against San Francisco, her ace among them, to turn a 3-2 first-set lead into a 12-2 advantage. Against Santa Clara, she also handed out 10 assists, passed 15-for-15 and went 16-for-16 from the service line.
This is Lynch's third WCC honor of the season after also being named the conference's Defensive Player of the Week on October 5, October 26, and November 2. San Diego has now captured eight WCC weekly awards in 2026 — a total that is second to only Santa Clara (nine) — including four Defensive honors and two Freshman and two Setter nods from the league.
After a day off on Thursday, Lynch and the Toreros will be back in action on Saturday afternoon at Denver. First serve against the Pioneers in USD's first WCC trip to Hamilton Gymnasium is set for 11:00 am.
