SAN DIEGO — San Diego men's basketball returns home to America's finest city for the last home stand of the season, beginning with a matchup against the Portland Pilots Wednesday evening.

• Portland is 12-14 on the season and 5-8 in West Coast Conference play (8th), red hot coming off the biggest upset in program history, 87-80 over No. 6 Gonzaga ... Three days later, on Saturday, the Pilots edged Seattle U 54-53 with a game-winning bucket with 1.9 seconds remaining
• USD has dominated in the all-time series against the Pilots 62-37, winners of three of the last four and six of the last seven in the Jenny Craig Pavilion
LAST TIME OUT
- San Diego men's basketball fell at the hands of the Lions of LMU on Saturday night by a final score of 83-63 inside Gersten Pavilion
- The game was defined by the first six minutes, in which the hosts got out to a 17-0 lead. From there, the Toreros made attempts at catch-up but could never close the gap in what ended up being a 20-point defeat
- USD shot 60% (18-30) from the field in the second half but couldn't stop the Lions to make up ground as LMU also shot 61.5% (16-26) on second half field goals, San Diego also holding its opponent to five made threes, a 22.7% clip from beyond the arc
- The freshman Brandon Benjamin, in his hometown, went 5-of-5 from the field to finish in double figures in the City of Angels for the second time this season, finishing a team high plus-6 in 13 minutes played. Dominique Ford, a graduate student, led the squad with 14 points and six rebounds
DOUBLED OVERTIME
• In a mirror of games in which the visiting team made a comeback in the final minutes of regulation and won in overtime, San Diego played in OT in back-to-back games for the first time in program history: a Jan. 28, 92-88 win at Pepperdine (then the first OT game since 2022) and a Jan. 31, 78-76 loss to Oregon State
