SAN DIEGO — San Diego softball (4-3, 0-0 WCC) on Thursday night dropped a tough 9-5 decision to Weber State (1-6, 0-0 Big Sky) at Reggie Smith Softball Complex in the second game of a double header against the Wildcats to kick off the USD/UCSD Co-Host Tournament.
After WSU opened up an early 4-0 lead to start the game, San Diego managed to erase the deficit and tie the game back up at four runs a piece, but Weber State pulled away with runs in the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to secure the victory.Â
Taylor Johnson got the scoring started for San Diego by booming a leadoff home run in the bottom of the second inning over the centerfield wall for her first homer of the season and the first home run at Reggie Smith Softball Complex of 2026, cutting the Wildcat lead to three at 4-1.
USD continued the momentum into the bottom of the third inning with a trio of RBI doubles from
Hailey Mulligan,
Shawnese Hogue-Lacy, and
Michelle Delgado that knotted the game up at 4-4 with four frames left to play.Â
Weber State responded with RBI singles in the fourth and sixth innings to retake a two run lead at 6-4. Hogue-Lacy knocked an RBI single of her own in the bottom of the frame to cut the deficit back to one, but the Toreros got no closer, as the Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the seventh to secure a 9-5 victory.Â
San Diego will be back in action tomorrow, when they face off against Southern Utah and Colorado State at 4:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. respectively, to continue play in the USD/UCSD Co-Host Tournament at Reggie Smith Softball Complex.Â
