SAN DIEGO — San Diego baseball (7-11, 0-0 WCC) racked up 10 hits and scored four unanswered runs on Saturday evening before falling 11-5 to No. 18 Oregon State (13-4) before a crowd of 1,431 at Fowler Park.
USD faced an eight-run deficit before their at-bats began in the third inning.
However, despite trailing by a wide margin, the Torero offense never gave up. San Diego got one run back in the third inning as Jayden Lobliner scored on an RBI single from Andrew Gauna, who went 3-for-4 with a walk.
Though they gave up three runs in the seventh to the Beavers, the Toreros punched back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the frame. Lobliner logged a two-RBI double, plating Jayton Greer and Connor Meidroth. Then Gabe Springer plated Lobliner on an RBI single to right-center field. And to cap off the inning, CJ Moran brought Springer home on a double down the right field line.
Logan Piper, who was the second man out of the San Diego bullpen on Saturday, got the first two outs of the third before Christian Garcia went a career-high three scoreless innings pitched while scattering two hits and a walk with two strikeouts.
After Aídan Gonzalez threw two-thirds of an inning, Lucas Shannon made his first collegiate appearance, striking both hitters he faced to end the seventh before a scoreless eighth, highlighting a couple of strong performances from San Diego freshmen.
USD loaded the bases with two outs in the bottom of the ninth on a walk from Meidroth, a hit-by-pitch on Springer, and a walk drawn by Gauna but did not score.

- San Diego hit .500 (5-for-10) with runners in scoring position and .467 (7-for-15) when batting with two outs.
- All five of the Toreros' runs came with two outs as San Diego's 10 hits marked the fifth time this season it has logged double-digit base knocks.
- Meidroth went 1-for-4 with two runs scored and recorded his fourth double of the season in the third inning
- Gauna recorded his third multi-hit game of the season and second in his last three games with his 3-for-4 performance Saturday. It is his second three-hit game of the season and first since facing San Diego State (February 22)
- Lobliner went 2-for-4 with two RBI, a run scored and a walk He now brings his team lead in hits to 27, which is tied for the third-best mark in the West Coast Conference. The 2025 All-WCC Second Team selection also ranks second in the conference with 51 total bases and a 1.166 OPS.
- Springer went 1-for-4 with an RBI and scored his 21st run of the season, which leads the conference.
- Garcia achieved a new career-high with 3.0 innings pitched. This comes after he reached a previous season-high 1.1 innings pitched in his collegiate debut against Utah (February 20)
- Shannon made his collegiate debut, striking out both hitters he faced to end the seventh inning. He then left a runner stranded at third base for 1.2 innings of work.
