SAN DIEGO — Saint Mary's (35-12, 10-1 WCC) plated 11 runs on 12 hits to run-rule San Diego (17-27, 3-8 WCC) by an 11-0 margin in five innings on Saturday afternoon at the Reggie Smith Softball Complex, taking the series over the Toreros with one game to play.  

The Gaels wasted little time, scoring two in the first on a groundout and a sacrifice fly before breaking the game open with a six-run second inning. The damage in the second culminated in a three-RBI double down the left field line that cleared the bases and put the game out of reach. Saint Mary's added two more in the third and one in the fourth to complete the scoring. 

San Diego managed one hit on the afternoon — a Carly Ruiz single in the fifth — and never had a runner reach second base. Charlie Johnson started in the circle before making way for Kelsey Tadlock and Alex Riggs in relief. 

The Toreros will conclude their series with Saint Mary's tomorrow afternoon. First pitch at the Reggie Smith Softball complex for the finale is set for 12 p.m.
