LIMA, Peru — San Diego volleyball needed only three sets to handle host Peru on Tuesday afternoon, sweeping 25-17, 25-17, 25-23 to move to 2-0 at the 2026 FISU America Games. Competing as Team USA, the Toreros put down 49 kills — the same total it took them four sets to reach against Brazil — while hitting .290 and holding Peru to .140.
The USD middle blockers were the difference.
Meghan Scholz and
BayLea Sparks combined for 13 kills on 20 swings without a single attack error between them. Scholz was 7-for-10 for a .700 clip in three sets, and Sparks added six kills on 10 attempts across two.
Kierstyn Barton paced the Toreros with 11 kills and chipped in six digs and an ace.
Nemo Beach had the busiest afternoon on the floor, taking a team-high 29 serve-receive attempts and handling all but two of them for a .931 mark while adding nine kills, eight digs, two blocks and an ace of her own.
Emma Brewer made it two straight double-doubles to open the Games, matching nine kills with 10 digs and passing at .889 on her nine chances. The freshman outside hitter has now posted 18 kills and 22 digs through two matches in Lima.
Kylie Munday distributed 39 assists, an average of 13.0 per set, and added six digs, three kills and an ace. Behind her, San Diego passed at .942 as a team, committing just three reception errors on 52 attempts. Libero
Lauren Lynch was flawless on all 11 balls that came her way and led the Toreros with 13 digs.
The Torero defense never let Peru settle in. The hosts hit .140 for the match and bottomed out in the second set, managing six kills against seven errors on 31 swings for a minus-.032 clip. USD out-dug Peru 47-38.
San Diego's bench contributed as well.
Reese Bates was perfect from the service line, going 11-for-11 with an ace, and
Ryann Knuth converted both of her swings in a set of work.
Ella Fulton saw her first action of the Games, playing a set in the middle.
