USD's Chloe Walls Named WCC Defensive Player of the Week

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper earns first WCC honors of the 2026 season

SAN BRUNO, Calif. — San Diego redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Chloe Walls has been named the WCC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for Aug. 17, 2026, the West Coast Conference announced on Monday afternoon.

Walls turned aside four shots, including a 41st-minute penalty kick, to preserve a clean sheet in USD's lone match of the week. The Toreros drew Cal State Fullerton 0-0 in their Aug. 12 season opener at Torero Stadium, extending their non-conference unbeaten streak to 11 matches dating back to 2024.

The honor is Walls' second conference weekly award of her career, following her Defensive Player of the Week nod on Aug. 25, 2025 for her stellar career debut performances in net to start last season. She is the first Torero to be recognized since Amanda Anders earned Offensive Player of the Week honors on Sept. 8, 2025.

Las Toreras return to the field Thursday, Aug. 20, when they travel to Los Angeles to face off with the currently ninth-ranked UCLA Bruins. Kickoff at Wallis Annenberg Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
