HONOLULU — San Diego volleyball did not trail a single point Sunday night, sweeping tournament host Hawaii 25-16, 25-17, 25-18 in front of 5,430 at Bankoh Arena at Stan Sheriff Center to close the 2026 Hawaiian Airlines Wahine Volleyball Classic.
The Toreros (2-1, 0-0 WCC) hit .266 for the match, doubled up the Rainbow Wahine (1-2, 0-0 Mountain West) at the net with 9.0 team blocks to 4.0 and held Hawaii to 26 kills on 103 swings, a .078 clip. San Diego outscored Hawaii 75-51 over an hour and 44 minutes and led wire to wire in all three sets.
The first one turned on a single rotation. With San Diego ahead 4-3, the Toreros ran off nine straight points — eight of them with
Lauren Lynch serving, including an ace — to lead 13-3, and Hawaii never got within seven again.
Hawaii's best stretch of the night came midway through the second, when a four-point Wahine service run trimmed a 14-7 deficit to 14-11 and sent San Diego to a timeout. The answer was six in a row for 21-13, five of those points on
Nemo Beach's serve and three of them ending at the net. San Diego put up 5.0 of its nine team blocks in that set alone and held Hawaii to eight kills against eight errors on 29 attempts, a flat .000.
Hawaii hit better in the third (.128) and made San Diego work for it — six ties, the last at 12-12. From there the Toreros took 10 of the next 11 points to lead 22-13, with
Kierstyn Barton serving four in a row and slipping an ace in behind them, and
Ryann Knuth reeling off four more late.
Beach finished with a match-high 12.5 points on 11 kills, hitting .267 with 11 digs for a double-double. Barton had one of her own with nine kills and 10 digs, adding four block assists and an ace for 12.0 points.
Meghan Scholz put down eight kills on 17 swings (.294) and shared five blocks, Knuth had six kills and a pair of aces, and
BayLea Sparks hit .400 with five kills and four block assists.
Emma Brewer, in two sets off the bench, went 4-for-7 with no errors.
Kylie Munday ran the offense to 41 assists as a team, handing out 34 herself while going 2-for-2 hitting with an ace and two block assists. Lynch anchored the back row with 17 digs, part of a 49-dig night that included just two reception errors on 48 serves received.
Cha'lei Reid led Hawaii with 11 kills, libero Victoria Leyva had 10 digs and setter Adrianna Arquette finished with 13 assists. The Wahine, who opened the first year of the Joshua Walker era with a five-set loss to No. 21 Baylor on Saturday, committed 18 attack errors and were out-aced 6-2.
The result gives San Diego a 2-1 weekend in Honolulu after a hard-fought Friday loss at the hands of No. 21 Baylor and a four-set win over Georgia Southern on Saturday. It also makes back-to-back sweeps of Hawaii for the Toreros in this event.
