SAN DIEGO — No. 19 San Diego (5-2-2, 0-0-1 WCC) opened its West Coast Conference title defense Saturday with a 0-0 draw against Denver (1-6-2, 0-0-1 WCC), controlling much of the match at Torero Stadium.
The Toreros finished with 58% of possession and took seven of the first half's eight shots. Six of their 16 shots were on target, and Denver's goalkeeper turned away all six.
At the other end, reigning WCC Goalkeeper of the Year
Lucca Adams played all 90 minutes without facing a shot on goal. Three of Denver's six attempts were blocked, and the other three missed the target. The clean sheet was San Diego's first of 2026, after the Toreros had allowed exactly one goal in each of their first eight matches.
Iain Wagner took a match-high five shots and put three on goal, forcing saves in the 16th, 48th and 84th minutes.
Steven Ramirez added four shots, and
Taj Eagleston,
Samy Kanaan and
Luca Fava each put one on frame.
Around the hour mark, San Diego piled up three shots and two corners in less than a minute and a half. Eagleston's effort drew a save, and
Ricky Moreno and Wagner had theirs blocked.
"Really pleased with the effort today on both sides of the ball," head coach
Brian Quinn said. "The only thing we were really missing was a goal."
San Diego remains unbeaten at Torero Stadium this season at 2-0-1. Nineteen players saw action for the Toreros.
