Eagleston's Late Winner Lifts No. 22 Toreros to First WCC Win

Steven Ramirez equalizes 68 seconds after LMU's opener as San Diego rallies for a 2-1 victory at Sullivan Field

LOS ANGELES — Taj Eagleston scored in the 79th minute and No. 22 San Diego men's soccer (6-2-2, 1-0-1 WCC) came from behind to beat LMU (1-6-2, 0-2-0 WCC) 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon at Sullivan Field for its first West Coast Conference win of the season.

LMU went in front with a goal in the 22nd minute, but the lead lasted only 68 seconds. Steven Ramirez answered in the 23rd minute, off assists from Oliver Rhoades and Iain Wagner, for his fourth goal of the season. Rhoades' assist was his first point of 2026.

Neither side scored again until Eagleston's unassisted strike, which pulled him even with Ramirez for the team lead at four goals apiece this season. The junior midfielder has now scored the game-winner in each of San Diego's last three wins, after doing the same at UC Irvine on Sept. 8 and against San Diego State on Sept. 13.

San Diego outshot LMU 15-9, including 10-4 in the first half, and finished with a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal and 8-5 in corner kicks. Wing-back Luca Fava led all players with five shots.

Lucca Adams improved to 6-2-2 in goal this season, and his lone save came with four seconds left to protect the lead. LMU finished with two shots on target, making the Lions the sixth straight opponent San Diego has held to two or fewer.

The win moved San Diego to 36-17-5 all-time against LMU and extended its winning streak in the series to three. The Toreros have also won their last three matches at Sullivan Field, including the 1-0 victory that clinched the 2024 WCC title.
