Mark Lewis

Mark Lewis joined San Diego women’s rowing in October of 2022 as an assistant coach. He was named the program's interim head coach in November of 2023. 

A seasoned professional with a wealth of rowing experience, Lewis came to USD from the East Coast, where he served as the head rowing coach at both Hollis Brookline Cavaliers Crew (September 2013 – November 2022) and UMass Lowell (September 2013—January 2020).

While in New Hampshire, Lewis ran both the high school and middle school programs for Hollis Brookline Cavaliers Crew, leading the program to six gold medals, seven silver medals, and six bronze medals at the New England Junior and High School Regional Championships.

In Massachusetts, he served as the overall women’s program lead, coaching all varsity crews, while managing the novice. Under his direction, the River Hawks secured the program’s first-ever championship win at the New England Rowing Championships. In total, his leadership saw the team total five bronze, two silver, and one gold medal.

Lewis began his coaching career in America after a 15-plus year international rowing career competing in both Lightweight and Heavyweight, Junior and Senior, 8s, 4+, 4--, 4x and 2-, including The Commonwealth Regatta, Henley Royal Regatta, British National Championships, and Belgium National Championships.

In Britain Lewis worked as a teacher and rowing coach at Claires Court School for four years and took two of his crews to Gold and a 4th-place finish at the British National Schools Championships.
