(San Diego, CA; Torero Stadium) -- The University of San Diego women's soccer team improved to 5-2-3 on the season with tonight's 2-1 victory over the visiting Arizona Wildcats (4-5-1). USD's Alexis Obeji got the Toreros on the scoreboard first in the 17th minute of play with a header close in from the left side. Obeji's 2nd goal of the season was set up by Brenna Mullen's corner kick. That goal was the lone score of the first half with USD holding a 7-3 edge in shots by intermission.
USD jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the 58th minute of play as Brenna Mullen scored the eventual game-winner from 40 yards out on a free kick at 57:54. Her blast was straight on and it sailed over the head of UA goalie into the upper right corner of the net. It was Mullen's third goal of the season. Arizona's Mallory Miller got the Wildcats within one about four minutes later when she carved her corner kick from the left side over Torero goalie Libby Bassett and into the back upper corner. The goal was Miller's 5th of the season.
USD's defense was stingy down the stretch as the Wildcats held a 6-2 advantage in shots in the 2nd period. USD's Bassett finished with 3 saves on the night. Obeji and Marie Claude-Henry each had three shots on the night to pace the Toreros. USD returns to Torero Stadium this coming Sunday to take on #12 Arizona State (6-1-1) at 1 pm.
