Box Score

San Diego defeated Long Beach State 1-0 Friday afternoon in Long Beach to claim the season opener for both clubs. First-year Torero head coach Ada Greenwood won his head coaching debut with Canadian's Michelle Rowe and Marie Claude-Henry combining to net the match's lone goal in the 70th minute. The Torero defense limited the 49ers to just four shots. USD will return home to face Oregon State Sunday afternoon at 11:45 a.m. in Torero Stadium.

Michelle Rowe (Calgary, Aberta), who was flanked by defender Natalie Messina (Santa Rosa) for most the afternoon, benefited from a short goal kick from LBSU goalie Meghan Hartwyk (Los Alamitos) to score the match's lone goal. After Marie Claude-Henry stole the goal kick just outside the penalty box, Henry passed it to Rowe, who scored from about 12 yards out.

USD managed just three first half shots but broke through with eight attempts in the second half, including the winning score. Rowe took a team-high three shots and senior Cristina Romero added two. San Diego keeper Libby Bassett earned the shutout, saving three shots in 90:00 minutes.
