The USD softball team earned a split in today's competition at the Riverside Tournament. The Toreros lost game one to Princeton 3-0, but rebounded with a solid 8-5 win in their nightcap with the host UCR Highlanders. The Toreros will face Canisus tomorrow morning in a 9am contest. Senior Anna Russell pitched a complete game 7 hitter in the Toreros victory. Sara Mason and Alicia Massei each knocked in three runs for the Toreros.
In game one Princeton scored 3 runs in the first inning off of Christina Haake and that would be the only runs scored in the game. The Toreros totaled four hits with Gina McFarland and Jennifer Delpit each banging doubles.
In game two the Toreros scored 3 runs in the first inning and 4 more in the 2nd on their way to an 8-5 victory. The game was called after six innings due to darkness. Anna Russell went the distance for the Toreros scattering 7 hits and giving up just 3 earned runs out of the 5 scored. Alicia Massei belted a 2-run single in the first inning to get the Toreros started, and Sara Mason banged a 3-run triple in the 2nd inning.
