Sophomore Sara Mason belted a solo homer in the 4th inning and Anna Russell tallied a complete-game shutout as the Toreros earned a 1-0 victory over Princeton at the UC Riverside Invitational. The Toreros dropped a hard fought 8-6 decision to Canisius in their morning opener to finish the weekend tourney 2-2. Ashlee Nunes totaled 2 RBI against Canisius. The Toreros improve to 9-15 on the season.
Against Canisius in game one the Toreros scored 5 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to take a commanding 5-1 lead. Ashlee Nunes knocked in two runs to pace the big inning. Canisius knotted the score at 5-all with 4 runs in the top of the sixth as C. Luukinen cleared the bases with a 3-run double. Canisius added 3 runs in the top of teh 8th against reliever Christina Haake, and the Toreros were able to answer with just 1 run in the bottom half as Marissa Merchain tallied an RBI sacrifice fly. Gina McFarland went 2-for-3 with 1 run and Rebekah Bradford added 1 RBI and 1 run scored.
