Box Score
The Santa Clara Broncos handed San Diego a pair of losses, 3-1 and 7-1, in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon. The Toreros falls to 16-28 (3-11 PCSC) on the year while Santa Clara improves to 24-23 (10-4 PCSC).
Santa Clara got on the board first in Game One when Jenny Brown hit a single through the left side scoring Liz Courter in the second inning. Jessica Clee launched a shot over the centerfield fence for a solo home run in the third inning making it a 2-0 ballgame. That proved to be all Jaime Forman-Lau needed as she struck out 11 Torero hitters in a complete game for her 20th win of the year. San Diego put together a rally in the bottom of the seventh with singles by Cindy McGee, Gina McFarland and Sara Mason to put the tying run on base but they could only manage one run, ending the game at 3-1. Anna Russell picked up the loss, giving up three runs and seven hits in a complete game.
The Broncos struck early in Game Two as their first three hitters of the game all scored to take a 3-0 lead after one inning. USD would make it a 3-1 game in the second as Kari Lohse scored on a groundout by McGee. That proved to be as close as they would come. Santa Clara added three more runs in the fifth and one in the seventh to hand the Toreros a 7-1 defeat. San Diego was led at the plate by McFarland, Rebekah Bradford and Mason as they all went 2-for-4 in the game.
The two teams complete their four-game series tomorrow with another doubleheader starting at 12 noon. These will be the final two games at USD Softball Complex this year for the Toreros.
