The USD Softball team swept Saint Mary's in a PCSC doubleheader this afternoon in Moraga, CA by scores of 5-3 and 5-2. With the two wins the Toreros improve to 18-30 and will now close out their regular-season schedule tomorrow with another doubleheader against the Gaels. In game one, Sara Mason went 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and it was her two-run homer in the 5th inning that broke a 3-all tie and ended up being the game-winning hit. In game two, the Toreros scored single runs in each of the first three innings, then both teams added 2 runs in the 7th for the final 5-3 tally. Gina McFarland went the distance in game two for the pitching victory.
In game one, Christina Haake pitched the first three innings, allowing 3 runs on 3 hits. She was replaced by senior Allison Williams who closed out the final 4 innings by allowing 3 hits and 0 runs to notch her first victory of the season. For USD, Rebekah Bradford also went 2-for-4 at the plate with 1 run scored and senior Cindy McGee crossed the plate twice.
In game two, five different Toreros scored with Kim Delpit leading the way at the plate with a 2-for-4 performance. Gina McFarland pitched all 7 innings, allowing 8 hits and giving up just two runs to improve to 3-4 on the season. USD is now 18-30 overall and 5-13 in PCSC play; Saint Mary's falls to 11-3; 3-15 PCSC. The two teams will meet again tomorrow beginning at 12 noon for two games.
