(Riverside, CA) - Nate Boman struck out eight and won his second consecutive start as San Diego defeated UC Riverside 7-1 Friday night at the UCR Sports Complex in Riverside.
USD registered 14 hits off five UCR pitchers Friday night. Freshman Highlander starter James Simmons was chased after just an inning and a third, allowing four earned runs on seven hits.
Keoni Ruth and Ryan Lilly led off the game with consecutive doubles providing San Diego (6-3-1) with early offense, cruising to victory behind the strong pitching performance from Boman.
Boman, a left-handed sophomore from San Diego's Patrick Henry High School, went seven complete innings, allowed just one run on three hits while walking three.
San Diego shortstop Steve Singleton went 3-for-5 with three doubles. Freshman outfielder Justin Snyder went 3-for-4 while Ruth and Lilly both drove in a pair of runs.
UC Riverside (2-2) will travel to San Diego's Cunningham Stadium for game-two of the weekend series Saturday at 1pm.
