LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego (17-19; 7-7 PCSC) dropped a pair of games to the Pacific Coast Softball Conference leading Loyola Marymount Lions (30-16; 12-2 PCSC) on Saturday afternoon. The Lions continued their strong hitting, scoring 14 runs on 20 hits in the doubleheader, compared to 5 runs on 10 hits for the Toreros.
LMU started the scoring early, taking a 7-0 lead after two innings in the opening game. The score stayed at 7-0 all the way until the seventh inning, when USD's Danielle Treiber blasted a solo home run to right field to break the shutout. It was the first home run of career. Kathleen Bonja, Gina McFarland and Alicia Massei also collected hits for the Toreros.
The Lions took an early lead again in Game Two when Danielle Kaminaka hit a two-run shot to right field in the bottom of the first inning. LMU would add two more home runs in the fifth inning to score five runs and take a 7-0 lead. San Diego cut into the lead in the sixth, sending eight hitters to the plate and scoring two runs. The Toreros would add two more runs in the seventh, but could not finish the comeback. Five USD players collected hits in the game, including two base hits by Treiber.
The Toreros and Lions will finish their four-game PCSC series on Sunday with another doubleheader starting at 12 noon.
