UCLA Edges USD at Jackie Robinson Stadium

(Los Angeles, CA) - UCLA defeated San Diego 8-5 Tuesday night in non-conference action at Jackie Robinson Stadium. San Diego (27-23-1) right fielder Shane Buschini had a pair of hits and three RBIs for the Toreros to extend his current hitting streak to 15 games. The Toreros led after five innings, but UCLA (11-30) used a total of 13 hits to rally for their third win in five outings.

Eric Taylor's home run in the bottom of the sixth tied the game at five and Chris Jensen's RBI sacrifice fly later in the inning gave the Bruins the final run they would need as UCLA defeated the University of San Diego, 8-5 Tuesday night in non-conference action at Jackie Robinson Stadium. UCLA (11-30) has won two in a row and three of its last five.

UCLA pounded out 13 hits as five different Bruins each contributed two hits apiece. Center fielder Josh Roenicke was 2-for-5, Jensen was 2-for-3, designated hitter Hector Ambriz was 2-for-3, third baseman Brett McMillan was 2-for-5 and first baseman Matt Sharp was 2-for-2. Jensen extended his hitting streak to 12 games.

Southpaw Brian Schroeder (3-5) earned his second win in as many games for the Bruins with 3.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Schroeder allowed just one hit while striking out two to end the game.

Right fielder Shane Buschini went 2-for-5 with three RBI and a run scored for the visiting Toreros (27-23-1).

The two teams exchanged runs through the first four innings with San Diego scoring twice in the first and once in the second, fourth and fifth innings. UCLA put up single runs in the first four frames before taking the final lead of the game in the sixth. The Bruins added single runs again in the seventh and eighth.

San Diego committed five errors in the loss. Russell Holzauer (1-1) suffered the loss for USD, allowing three runs (one earned) in three innings pitched.
