(San Diego, Calif.) - The 2006 USD baseball team overcame a 3-run deficit after the first inning to hand the Torero Alumni a 6-4 defeat at Cunningham Baseball Stadium. Sophomore leadoff hitter Justin Snyder (El Cajon, CA; El Capitan HS) went 2-for-3 at the plate with a single, 2-run double in the 4th, and 2 runs scored. He scored the winning run on a wild pitch in the 8th inning. Number two hitter Daniel Magness also reached base three times with a single, 2 walks, a run and 1 RBI. Freshman pitcher Brian Matusz, a 6-4 lefty from Cave Creek, Arizona (St. Mary's HS) pitched a perfect 6th inning, striking out the side with all three USD alums looking. Jeb Dougherty led the Alumni, going 3-for-4 with a double, run and 2 RBI. The Toreros will host CETYS in an exhibition on Sunday, Jan. 29th, before hosting a three-game homestand with the defending national champions, Houston, Feb. 3-5.
