SAN DIEGO, Calif. -Kristen Carlson's 21 kills and Christie Dawson's double-double helped lead the 20th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team to their seventh consecutive win over their cross-town rival San Diego State University, 3-1 (27-30, 30-21, 30-25, 30-21), in the final match of the San Diego State Tournament Saturday evening at the Peterson Gym.
With the win the Toreros remain undefeated on the season moving to 3-0 and claim the tournament championship. With the loss the Aztecs fall to 1-2.
Dawson recorded her first double-double of the season with 16 kills and 12 digs. Carlson had a match-high 21 kills on 43 attempts for an attack percentage of .395. Jessica Nyrop also had a double-double as she recorded a match-best 50 assists and 12 digs.
For the Aztecs, Audra Dent led the way with her team-high 15 kills, Lindsay Mahan had 10 kills, Melanie Greene had 11 kills and Stephanie Darnall had 14 kills.
The Toreros will return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Lincoln, Neb. for a 4 p.m. match with the top-ranked Cornhuskers of the University of Nebraska.
