LONG BEACH, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swimming and diving team recorded a 9th place finish after three days of competition at the Nike Cup in Long Beach, California this weekend.
Day one highlights include a tenth place finish by senior Sarah Gleason in the 500 freestyle finishing in 5:02.85. Freshman Sarah Geerdes finished in 2:06.52 taking 17th place in the 200 individual medley. The 400 medley relay squad (Yoon, Geerdes, Rodriguez, and Voyles) finished in 3:56.94 taking ninth place overall. The team earned a day one total of 100 points for 10th place overall.
Day two started with a 200 medley relay squad (Yoon, Geerdes, Rodriguez, and Voyles) finishing in ninth place in 1:49.01. Geerdes finished in seventh place with a time of 57.67 in the 100 butterfly. Kristen Yoon finished in 17th place with a time of 58.60. Rounding out the day's highlights was a solid sixth place finish in the 800 freestyle (Geerdes, Yoon, Gleason, and Voyles) in 7:43.48. Day two ended with 225 overall team points remaining in 10th place.
Day three wrapped up with Gleason finishing in 8th place in a time of 17:22.27. Yoon had an 11th place finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:05.17. In the 100 freestyle Geerdes finished in ninth place overall with a 51.69 time. The day finished with the 400 freestyle relay squad (Geerdes, Yoon, Gleason, Voyles) taking seventh place in a time of 3:32.42. The Toreros finished the meet with 333 total points jumping up one place to take 9th place overall.
The USD Toreros return to the pool on Saturday, December 13 when they host their first official home meet against the New Mexico State Aggies.
