HOUSTON, Texas — The University of San Diego swim and dive teams continued their push at the 2026 Big West Conference Championships in the Thursday finals session, with a number of Toreros advancing to finals heats across the evening's events.
Sydney Wilson turned in a gutsy performance in the Women's 500 Yard Freestyle Championship Final, finishing fifth overall with a time of 4:52.75. The sophomore worked through the back half of the race and held her position in the championship heat against a deep field.
Freshman Ally Diehl posted an 11th-place overall finish in the consolation final with a time of 4:55.50 — a strong showing for the first-year Torero. Junior
Milan Bever (4:58.16) placed 12th, while junior
Skylar Bruner closed out USD's entries in 16th at 5:01.35.
In the Women's 200 Yard IM, senior
Penelope Leonard (2:06.77) and junior
Elise Sullivan (2:07.28) both swam in the preliminary round. Junior
Ava Craig (2:09.72) also competed in prelims.
The Women's 50 Yard Freestyle was a highlight of the session for the Toreros. Freshman
Haley Borja (23.43) and sophomore
Mallory Paine (23.50) both scored in the consolation final, placing 15th and 16th overall and contributing points to the team total. Senior
Analeis Vos (24.06) and sophomore
Elle Ramos (24.70) also swam in the preliminary round.
The Women's 200 Yard Freestyle Relay squad of
Haley Borja,
Mallory Paine, Ally Diehl, and
Analeis Vos placed fifth overall with a time of 1:33.38, adding 28 points to the team's total.
Through Thursday's events, the USD women sit fifth in the conference standings with 133 points, behind University of Hawaii (271), UC Santa Barbara (225), UC Davis (217), and UC San Diego (207).
The 2026 Big West Conference Championships continue through Saturday, February 14. The Toreros
will look to close the meet strong as the final two days of competition get underway.
