Toreros Compete on Conference Stage in Friday Finals

Wilson earns top-8 finish in 400 IM championship final as USD posts 231 points through Day 3

HOUSTON — The University of San Diego swimming and diving program was in action on Friday night at the 2026 Big West Conference Championships, competing in the evening finals session and showcasing depth across multiple events. The Toreros placed fifth in the women's team standings through Friday's events with 231 points.

One of the highlights of the night came in the women's 400-yard individual medley championship final, where sophomore Sydney Wilson swam to a fifth-place finish with a time of 4:18.39, competing alongside the conference's best in the top eight. Junior Gwendolyn Smith added to USD's IM haul with a 4:23.36 in the consolation final for 10th place, while junior Erin Kau rounded out the Toreros' trio in the event with a 14th-place finish.

In the 100-yard backstroke, freshman Haley Borja earned a spot in the championship final — a strong achievement in her first conference championship appearance — placing eighth with a 55.76. Senior Ava Delaney turned in a 55.43 in the consolation final of the 100-yard butterfly to claim 12th, while freshman Ally Diehl posted a 1:49.23 in the 200-yard freestyle consolation final for ninth.
