San Diego drops 2-0 decision to Oregon

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team fell 2-0 to the University of Oregon Ducks on Thursday evening at the USD Softball Complex.

For USD, Carey Casciola led off the game with a triple to right-centerfield, however, was unable to cross home plate as the Ducks downed three consecutive batters. San Diego's defense held off Oregon through two innings when a walk and a stolen base followed by a bunt gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead over USD.

The rest of the game became a pitcher's duel as Ellenbeck downed seven batters over four innings and a total of nine batters struck out in the game, while Oregon's Melissa Rice totaled four strike outs in the game holding USD to only two hits.

With two outs in the seventh inning and USD down 0-2, San Diego's Jennifer Ellenbeck sent a ball back at the pitcher which hit off of her glove and into the left infield gap for a single. However, Oregon recorded the final out in the game to capture the win over USD.

For San Diego offensively, Casciola and hit 1-for-3 with one triple while Ellenbeck also hit one-for-three.

Defensively, Ellenbeck had 10 strikeouts for the Toreros allowing two runs on five hits.

The Toreros return on Friday for games three and four of the San Diego Classic I co-hosted by San Diego State and University of San Diego. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
