SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team wrapped up day two of the San Diego Classic 2-0 with a 3-2 victory over St. Peters College and a 7-1 win over Harvard. The wins push San Diego to 6-12 overall.
In the afternoon game, the Toreros fell behind early 1-0 to the Peahens. USD came back in the third inning scoring a pair of their own runs to take a 2-1 lead. The Peahens responded in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game. Both teams went scoreless through the fourth and fifth innings before San Diego's Lindsey Fleet sent a bat over the right field fence and over the scoreboard as the Toreros held tough on defense through the seventh inning winning 3-2.
In game two, the Toreros held the Crimson scoreless through five innings and allowed only one hit through the first four innings. San Diego posted six runs in the third inning to take a 6-0 lead. USD added one run in the fifth inning to take a 7-0 lead. Harvard responded in the sixth inning with one run cutting the Torero lead to six but that's as close as they got as the Toreros went on to win 7-1 overall.
Defensively for USD, Jennifer Ellenbeck posts another win moving to 2-7 on the season with a strikeout on the day. Alyssa Luna moves to 3-3 on the season with her win striking out six batters.
Offensively for San Diego, Ellenbeck hit for a combined 3-for-7 with one RBI and one run scored. Lindsey Fleet finished a combined 2-for-5 with two runs scored, one homerun and a homerun. Stacy Compton finished 2-for-5 also with three RBI.
San Diego returns to finish day three of the San Diego Classic as they face Cal State Bakersfield in the final game at 4:30 p.m. from the USD Softball Complex.
