BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team posted a split against the CSU Bakersfield Roadrunners. The Toreros lost 13-8 in game one and won 10-1 in five innings in game two.
The Toreros fell behind 5-0 in the first inning. USD cut the lead to four in the second inning pushing a run across followed by a five run third inning taking a 6-5 lead. Bakersfield would take control for the remainder of the game as they went on to win game one 13-8.
San Diego would take a 2-0 lead early in the first inning in game one. In the bottom of the third inning, Bakersfield would cut the lead to one. The Toreros would add on six more runs as USD went on to win 10-1 in five innings.
Kathleen Bonja led the team offensively hitting a combined 4-for-7 with two homeruns, four RBI, and three runs scored over the two games. Jennifer Ellenbeck hit 4-for-6 with one double, one homerun, three RBI, and three runs scored. Kristen Gensler finished the day hitting 5-for-8 with one RBI and three runs scored. Lindsey Fleet rounded out the offense hitting 4-for-8 with three doubles, four RBI, and two runs scored.
Ellenbeck takes the loss giving up eight runs on nine hits. Kristen Gensler pitched three innings of work allowing only one run on seven hits picking up the win.
The Toreros will return to the softball diamond as they will open up Pacific Coast Softball Conference play against the Portland State Vikings. The conference format is scheduled for doubleheaders starting at noon and 2:00 p.m.
