MORAGA, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Saint Mary's College Friday afternoon in a West Coast Conference match.
With the loss, the Toreros fall to 7-5-2 overall and 1-1-0 in the WCC. With the win, the Gaels improve to 9-5-1 overall and move to 1-1-0 in the WCC.
The Gaels got on the scoreboard first, as in the 16th minute of action, SMC took a corner kick, and the ball found the head of Jessica Menzhuber, who was able to slip it past USD's sophomore goalkeeper Courtney Parsons to give the Gaels a 1-0 lead.
Then just under a minute into the second half, sophomore midfielder Elissa Magracia scored the equalizer at the 45:59 mark. Stephanie Ochs sent a pass over to Magracia, who then took the shot from about 10 yards out and hit it to the near post to knot things up at 1-1.
The Gaels then retook the lead in the 75th minute as Christina Tognetti controlled a pass and hit a one-timer into the back of the net to give the Gales the 2-1 victory.
San Diego's Parson's was saddled with the loss in goal for the Toreros as she allowed two goal and recorded three saves. Her counterpart Tara Larson picked up the win in goal for the Gaels as she allowed one goal and recorded three saves.
The Toreros will return to action on Sunday as they head to San Francisco to take on the Dons of the University of San Francisco in a 1 p.m. WCC match.
