SAN DIEGO, Calif. - University of San Diego senior defender Sam Reeder was named the WCC co-player of the week for his offensive strike in the first half lifting USD to a 1-0 lead, followed by tenacious defense in the backfield holding defending conference champion San Francisco to one goal.
The fifth year senior kick started USD's offense on Friday vs USF when he scored the first goal of the match. From the right hand side, forward Stephen Posa earned a free kick knocking the ball behind the USF defense where Reeder came into the far post and headed in a goal for the 1-0 lead.
His defensive leadership in the backfield held USF to only one goal. The defense from last year was shaky at times and Sam's return this year has made it rock solid again. Reeder plays a key role and is the foundation of the defense.
USD returns to Torero Stadium this weekend to host Portland on Friday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. and wrap up the home schedule at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8 against Gonzaga.
