SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Freshman Forward Patrick Wallen was named the WCC Player of the Month in October. Wallen, a native of Sweden, earned a starting role on the team after a strong non-conference performance for USD.
Wallen lead the team to a 7-1-0 overall and conference record in October as well as a 3-1-0 record at home and an undefeated 4-0-0 mark on the road. He finished with four goals and three assists for 11 points. He recorded 19 shots and 10 shots on goal for a .526 SOG%. Wallen had two game winning goals, the first on October 4 vs USF at Torero Stadium in their WCC opener (with a man on, jumped with his back at the goal connecting with a header re-directing it to the upper corner) and the second on October 16 vs Saint Mary's at home (In the first 45 seconds, leaped and connected on a header which sailed over SMC goalkeeper towards the far post in the top left corner of the net). His third goal was at home against Loyola Marymount and his fourth goal was on the road against LMU. Wallen tallied one assist at Portland and two at Loyola Marymount. He's been involved in seven of the team's 17 goals in October and was a key factor in USD entering major national polls as a ranked team.
Wallen and the Toreros prepare to take on Portland and Gonzaga in their final homestand of the season. They will face the Pilots on Friday, November 6 at 7:00 p.m. followed by a 1:00 p.m. match on Sunday, November 8 at Torero Stadium.
