USD Falls to Aztecs

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team recorded a 1-0 loss to crosstown rival San Diego State Wednesday night at the Aztec Softball Complex.

The Toreros opened the first inning scoreless but with the first hit of the game, a single by Danielle Duhart. They held the Aztecs scoreless in the bottom half of the inning as pitcher Jennifer Ellenbeck struck out their lead off batter.

In the second inning, Celeste Soto led off the inning with a double to centerfield. However, the Toreros were unable to push across the run to take the lead. The Aztecs put across the first and only run of the game in the second inning.

It was a defensive battle as both teams were unable to put across another run through the remainder of the game. Duhart lead the team with two hits in the game, Soto's double was the other hit for USD in the game.

Ellenbeck held San Diego State to only six hits in the game striking out three Aztecs in the game and recorded her third complete game of the season. USD falls to 1-9 overall on the season as they prepare for the San Diego Classic I scheduled to start on Friday evening with the return of Colorado State at 4:30 p.m. at the USD Softball Complex.
