SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team recorded two losses Saturday afternoon at the USD Softball Complex. The Toreros fell 10-3 in game one and 1-0 in game two.
In game one, the Toreros jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead. With one out, Megan Walsh singled to third base and then stole second base. Lindsay Fleet flied out to centerfield. Celeste Soto, Taylor Hensley, and Taryn Keenan all took base-on-balls allowing Walsh to score lifting USD to a 1-0 lead. The Vikings scored two runs in the second inning to take over the lead from USD 2-1. San Diego tied it back up 2-2 in the third inning. The Vikings pulled ahead with a four run fifth inning jumping ahead 6-2. USD cut the lead in the sixth inning with one more run. Portland State recorded four more runs in the sixth inning as they went on to win 10-3.
In game two, the two teams went scoreless through the first four innings in a defensive battle. The Vikings scored one run in the fifth inning and the Toreros were unable to push across a run to tie. San Diego fell 1-0.
The Toreros return to the softball field for their last non-conference showdown against the Cal-State Bakersfield Roadrunners on Wednesday, April 15. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3:00 p.m. at the USD Softball Complex.
