SACRAMENTO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team posted an 11-0 loss in game one and a 13-6 loss in game two Sunday afternoon wrapping up their opening conference series at Sacramento State Sunday afternoon.
The Toreros were down 1-0 in the first inning of game one. The Hornets jumped ahead to 3-0 in the fourth inning. The Toreros fell behind 11-0 after Sacramento State scored eight runs in the fifth inning ending the game.
In game two, USD quickly took control early jumping out to a 4-0 lead. With one out, Megan Walsh tripled to deep centerfield. Lindsay Fleet got on base from an error at second base scoring Walsh. Soto flied out to centerfield for the second out. Taylor Hensley walked putting runners at first and second base. Taryn Keenan then unloaded with a three-run homerun, the first of her collegiate career, over left field as USD put up four runs.
Sacramento state quickly responded with five runs in the second inning taking the lead from USD. The Hornets pushed across a sixth run in the third to take a 6-4 lead. USD pushed across two runs in the fourth inning to tie the game at 6-6 including a lead-off solo homerun by freshman Cathy Wineinger, her first of her collegiate career. Kristen Gensler was the other Torero to score in the fourth inning to tie the game for USD.
Sacramento State scored six runs in the fifth inning to take a 12-6 lead and scored the final run in the sixth inning to win 13-6.
San Diego falls to 10-25 on the season as they return home to face the UC San Diego Tritons at the Triton Softball Field on Wednesday, April 8 at 5:00 p.m.
