DENVER, Colo. - The 2008-09 Academic All-WAC women's swimming and diving team was announced this week. A total of 307 winter student-athletes were named to the list. To be eligible, a student-athlete must have completed at least one academic year, have at least a 3.00 cumulative grade point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's contests.
The USD Torero swimming and diving team had 13 student-athletes that were honored with the 2008-2009 Academic All-WAC award. Three seniors, eight juniors, and two sophomores make up the list of athletes representing USD. Of the nine other teams in the conference, USD had the second most honorees. New Mexico State and Northern Arizona were tied for first with 15 student-athletes receiving Academic All-WAC awards.
"The coaching staff is proud of our 13 student-athletes who worked so hard to receive this award," said head coach Mike Keeler. "It lifts our whole team up to a higher caliber when I can show that we have 13 student-athletes that make the cut for Academic All-WAC honors, and that says something about the recipients of this award."
