LA JOLLA, Calif. - The University of San Diego Toreros fell Saturday afternoon to crosstown rival UC San Diego Tritons 168.5-130.5 at Canyonview Pool. San Diego captured five of the sixteen events on the day including the 1-meter dive, the 3-meter dive and the 100 yard butterfly.
San Diego's diving squad swept the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Heather Hippensteel lead the team in the 1 meter event with a 243.98 followed by Monica Oddo scoring a 235.35 and Amy Boart with a 235.20. In the 3-meter event, Oddo took first place with a 260.70. Bogart finished in second place with a 237.75 followed by Addy Bednarski with a 217.65.
Sarah Gleason scored a second place finish with 10:43.83 in the 1000 freestyle and followed with a second place finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:14.01. Melissa Andruzzi captured the first place finish in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:06.23, while teammate Francesca Finucane took first place in the 50 yard freestyle in 24.44. Kelly Stone rounded out the first place finishes on the day in the 100 yard butterfly with a time of 58.23.
The Toreros return to the water on January 23 when they attend the Beach Cup in Los Angeles, California, a three-way meet hosted by LMU and will include Fresno State.
