LOS ANGELES, Calif. - San Diego swimming and diving competed in the USC Sprint Cup Invitational against host University of Southern California and Cal State Bakersfield. The Toreros competed well with many top-10 finishes. The day was divided into two meets with different events in each session.
The first session was a standard 11 event three-way meet opening with the 400 medley relay where San Diego placed fourth with a mark of 4:01.20. The 400 freestyle relay finished in third place (3:36.13) and fifth place overall (3:52.10).
Sarah Geerdes had top time in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:54.15 for third place and a ninth place finish in the 100 freestyle in 53.41.
Freshman Emily Lightcap had a solid day in the water with a first place finish in the 500 freestyle in 5:15.81 followed by a fourth place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 10:41.20. She also had an 11th place finish in the 200 breaststroke with a mark of 2:36.40.
Kristyn Deckard had a firs tplace finish in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:11.88 as well as an 8th place finish mark of 2:02.01.
In the afternoon session, Eleanor Phillips had a third place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:39.02, and a mark of 28.24 in the 50 butterfly event, and rounded out her afternoon with a fourth place finish in the second leg of the 200 freestyle relay.
Kelly Stone had a solid afternoon session as she helped her 200 medley relay squad to a third place finish in the third leg. She also had a sixth place finish in the 50 butterfly event with a mark of 26.53, and helped in the anchor leg of the 800 freestyle relay for a second place finish.
