Complete Women's Soccer Release in PDF Format
IN A NUTSHELL: The University of San Diego women's soccer team (11-7-2, 4-3-0 WCC) heads to Irvine, Calif. for their first-round NCAA tournament matchup with No. 14/21 Wake Forest on Friday, Nov. 12th at 5:00 p.m. If the Toreros win they will play the winner of the UC Irvine vs. Arizona State match that is being played leter Friday night.
LAST TIME OUT: The Toreros edged Loyola Marymount in overtime, 2-1, when Stephanie Ochs scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 95th minute this past weekend. Ochs assisted on the Toreros' first goal of the match by delivering a pass to Taylor Housley for the score in the 48th minute. Etajha Glimer scored the only goal for the Lions in the 55th minute. Goalkeeper Courtney Parsons tallied six saves on the match.
NCAA TOURNAMENT HISTORY: This marks the fourth season in a row the Toreros have made an NCAA tournament appearance and 11th time overall. USD has advanced to the second round three times, which remains the highest finish in program history. In 2009, the Toreros fell to San Diego State, 1-0, in the opening round of the tournament. Their matchup with Wake Forest will be the second ACC opponent the Toreros have faced in the tournament.
REMATCH?: USD and UC Irvine could potentially meet for a rematch of the Sept. 12th Irvine 1-0 win. ALL-WCC: Junior forward Stephanie Ochs and senior midfielder Jackie Zinke took home first-team All-WCC honors this season, while junior defender Natalie Garcia was named second-team, and freshman midfielder Taylor Housley and junior goalkeeper Courtney Parsons were recognized as honorable mention. Housley and midfielder Kelley Mc- Closkey were named to the All-WCC Freshman team.
POINT-BY-POINT: The Toreros finished the regular season second in the West Coast Conference in points on the year with 84 and goals with 28. NEITHER HERE NOR THERE: The Toreros are 1-0-0 in neutral site matches this season. Their only game at a neutral site this season was a 1-0 victory over Marquette in the Minnesota Gold Classic on Sept. 3rd.
VERSUS THE TOP-25: The Toreros are 2-3-0 against ranked opponents on the year, posting a 1-1-0 record at home and a 1-2-0 mark on the road. USD has scored two goals in those five matches while taking 41 shots compared to their opponents' four goals and 56 shots. Both top-25 wins came against USC, one at home and one on the road.
LOADED WEAPON: Junior forward Stephanie Ochs holds the conference lead with 61 shots on the season while also leading in points (23). Ochs is tied for the lead in assists (7) and second in goals (8).
PASSING THE BUCK: As a team, the Toreros are fourth in the WCC in total assists (28) and assists per game (1.40). Junior Stephanie Ochs is tied for the conference lead in assists (7) and senior Jackie Zinke is tied for second with six assists, while redshirt freshman Kelley McCloskey is tied for third with five.
HOLDING THEM IN CHECK: Junior goalkeeper Courtney Parsons is a prime reason why the Toreros are second in the West Coast Conference in saves this season, tallying a conference-best 86 saves on the year, while not allowing more than two goals in any match this season. Parsons' save percentage of .843 is second-best in the WCC.
GAME-WINNERS ALL AROUND: The Toreros have had six different players record game-winning goals this season, with Stephanie Ochs leading the team with three and Brittany Held recording two. Other game-winners: Jackie Zinke (vs. Arizona, 8/27), Elissa Magracia (vs Portland State, 9/19), Taylor Housley (vs USC, 10/1), and Devany Savage (@USC, 8/20).
YOUTH MOVEMENT: The Toreros have received solid support from their newcomers this season as three freshmen have scored at least two goals. Midfielder Taylor Housley leads the Torero freshman with five goals and forward Brittany Held is second with four goals, including two game-winners apiece. Housley's 11 points are second on the team. Forward Devany Savage has added three goals of her own. Savage was also named West Coast Conference Player of the Week on Aug. 23rd.
TOP HONORS: Three Toreros have earned WCC Player of the Week recognition this season. The most recent was Natalie Garcia (Oct. 18th), while Stephanie Ochs (Sept. 21st) and Devany Savage (Aug. 23rd) have each received the honor as well.
EXTRA FRAMES: The Toreros are 2-0-2 in overtime games this season. Two of the four overtime games have been at Torero Stadium.
OCHS ON THE RADAR: Junior forward Stephanie Ochs was ranked No. 86 in Top- Drawersoccer.com's National Top-100 upperclassmen Women to watch. Ochs is leading the team with eight goals to go along with her seven assists for a team-best 23 points on the year.
TOREROS TABBED THIRD IN WCC PRESEASON POLL: The University of San Diego was tabbed to finish third in the West Coast Conference according to the coach's poll released by the WCC Aug. 9th. Portland garnered the maximum seven first place votes and was selected as the preseason favorite. The Pilots are followed by Santa Clara for second, and rounding out this year's poll was Pepperdine in fourth place, followed by Loyola Marymount, picked fifth, Saint Mary's in sixth, Gonzaga in seventh, and San Francisco in eighth.
PAIR OF TOREROS SELECTED FOR PRESEASON ALL-WCC TEAM: Junior forward Stephanie Ochs and senior midfielder Jackie Zinke were named to the WCC preseason All-Conference team. Ochs, a first-team All-WCC selection last season, returns this year after recording a team-leading six goals and added in a team-best eight assists for a team-leading 20 points. Zinke, a second-team All-WCC selection last season, returns after scoring four goals, two of them game-winners, for eight points this season.

THE GREENWOOD FILE: Since taking over the San Diego women's soccer program in 2003, Ada Greenwood has upheld the rich soccer tradition that San Diego is known for and continues to build a successful and nationally recognized program. Just the third coach in USD's storied 15 year history, Greenwood has compiled an overall record of 81-51-14 in his seven seasons at the helm. As San Diego's top assistant from 1998- 2002, Greenwood helped USD to a 66-30-5 record and four NCAA College Cup appearances. In his second year as a head coach in 2004, he guided USD to a 12-8-2 overall record, a 5-1-1 mark in the difficult West Coast Conference, and a second round appearance in the NCAA College Cup, maintaining USD's streak of six consecutive postseason appearances. For his efforts, Greenwood was honored as both the 2004 West Coast Conference Coach of the Year and the 2004 San Diego Union Tribune Coach of the Year.
