SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. - The University of San Diego women's swimming and diving team competed well at the 2010 Cal Poly Shootout which included Loyola Marymount University, Pepperdine, Cal Poly, and Concordia University.
The Toreros took second place on both days, earning 572 points on the opening day and 576 points on day two. Cal Poly won the event overall with a substantial lead over all the competition.
USD opened day one with a second place finish in the 200 Medley Relay (Kristyn Deckard, Melissa Andruzzi, Kelly Stone, Jacquie Kimmel) finishing in 1:48.06.
The Toreros picked up five first place finishes throughout the day and a sixth first place finish in the 200 freestyle relay. Francesca Finucane got two first place finishes, her first in the 200 freestyle with a mark of 1:52.05 and her second in the 100 freestyle in 52.22. Finucane also got a third place finish in the 50 freestyle in 24.39.
Sarah Geerdes got two top finishes, a first place mark in the 100 butterfly in 58.09 followed by a third place finish in the 100 freestyle in 52.90. Kelly Stone took second place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 58.09. Jacquie Kimmel took first place in the 50 freestyle with 24.27 mark.
On the diving side of things, Monica Oddo took first in the 1 meter board with 236.15.
Wrapping up day one, USD's 200 freestyle relay squad (Sarah Geerdes, Kelly Stone, Melissa, Andruzzi, Francesca Finucane) took first place with a time of 1:36.99.
On day two, the Toreros had another dominating day with eight first place finishes. Finucane lead the way on the swimming side with two first place finishes while Oddo took control of the diving side take first place in both the 1 meter and the three meter board.
Finucane took first in the 200 freestyle with a 1:53.57 mark and then took first in the 500 freestyle event with a time of 5:05.86. Sarah Geerdes had a solid day two with a first place finish in the 100 freestyle in 52.52 and a third place time of 1:54.67 in the 200 freestyle.
Rounding out the top finishes on day two included Eleanor Phillips with a first place time of 2:06.66 in the 200 butterfly, Melissa Andruzzi with a time of 2:08.48 in the 200 individual medley, and Jacquie Kimmel with a time of 24.40 in the 50 freestyle.
Oddo had the 1 meter diving with a mark of 244.10 and in the 3 meter event got a 251.15.
San Diego returns to the water on Saturday, November 13 at noon for a meet against crosstown rival UC San Diego at the USD Sports Center Pool.
