SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego softball team fell on the opening day of the San Diego Classic one tournament 4-3 to Buffalo in nine innings and 12-1 to Wisconsin in five innings.
The Toreros drop to 3-8 on the season tallying their eighth straight loss.
In game one, the Toreros jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Kristen Gensler lead off with a walk and advanced on a wild pitch. Megan Walsh grounded out to third base as Jennifer Ellenbeck hit a fielder's choice. Gensler was tagged out for the second out of the inning. Celeste Soto walked moving Ellenbeck to second base. Taylor Hensley singled loading the bases for Carey Casciol who hit a two-RBI single to centerfield scoring Ellenbeck and Soto.
Buffalo punched through three runs in the third inning to take the lead. San Diego would tie it up in the seventh inning forcing extra innings. The Bulls scored in the 9th inning to take the win.
In the night cap, San Diego gave up 10 runs in the first inning to the Badgers. Wisconsin would score two more runs in the fourth inning pulling away 12-0. San Diego prevented the no-hitter in the fourth inning when Ellenbeck lead off with a walk and Soto hit a double. Taylor Hensley hit a sac fly to right field scoring Ellenbeck and picking up the RBI. However the Badgers would go on to win 12-1 as the game ended in the fifth inning under the mercy rule.
The Toreros return for day two of the San Diego Classic I Softball Tournament when they play at 4:30 against Oregon and 7:00 against Cal Poly.
