SAN DIEGO, Calif.- The University of San Diego women's soccer team finished in a scoreless tie with visiting Cal State Bakersfield Friday night at Torero Stadium. With the draw the Toreros now stand at 4-2-2 while the Roadrunners move to 2-3-3.
The Toreros stayed on the offensive for most of the match, firing off 23 shots to CSU Bakersfield's one, but were unable to find the back of the net as they recorded their second tie in three matches. Junior forward Stephanie Ochs led the attack with seven shots, followed by senior midfielder Jackie Zinke with four.
USD nearly pulled out the victory on an apparent goal knocked in by Natalie Garcia in the waning minutes of the first overtime period. However, as the Toreros were celebrating, the goal was called back due to a USD hand ball in the box.
Another close call came at the end of regulation when CSU Bakersfield goalie, Kym Gause narrowly stabbed a put back attempt by Brittany Held off a deflected shot in front of the goal.
Despite the overwhelming number of shots taken by the Toreros, Gause only recorded three saves on the night, while USD keeper Courtney Parsons saved the only shot the Roadrunners took on a leaping deflection during the first half of play.
USD held a 12-1 advantage in corner kicks on the night as well.
The Toreros return to action Sunday afternoon when they take on Portland State at 12:00 pm at Torero Stadium.
