Box Score

MALIBU, Calif. - The 17th-ranked University of San Diego women's volleyball team saw its nine-match winning streak come to an end Monday evening with a 3-0 loss to No. 18 Pepperdine University in a West Coast Conference match at the Firestone Fieldhouse.

With the 25-20, 25-17, 25-17 loss, the Toreros fall to 22-2 overall, 7-2 in the WCC and saw their nine match winning streak come to an end. With the win, the Waves improve to 15-5 overall and 9-0 in the WCC.

Sandra Lozic led the Toreros with 10 kills, while hitting for a .286 clip and she recorded five digs. Chloe Ferrari recorded seven kills and hit for a .429 clip, while Rachel Alvey recorded 24 assists in helping steer the USD offense to a .098 attack percentage.

In the first set, an Amber Tatsch kill gave the Toreros the first point of the match, but Pepperdine didn't allow USD to get too much momentum, as the teams traded point-for-point in the early going. Then with the score knotted at 9-all, the Waves went on a 7-2 run to gain control of the momentum and take a 16-11 lead. Pepperdine never looked back as they went on to claim the first set 25-20.

In the second set, the Toreros grabbed the first three points on a Ferrari kill, a Carrie Baird service ace and a Lozic kill to grab some early momentum. The Waves then answered with a 6-2 run to even the score at 6-all. Kills from Katie Hoekman and Lozic then gave USD back the lead, but not for long as Pepperdine then went on a 9-2 run to take a 15-10 lead. The Toreros could not recover, as they dropped the set 25-17 to go in to the break, down 2-0.

In the third and final set, Pepperdine jumped out to a 9-3 lead, as they took advantage of several USD miscues to grab the early momentum. USD could not seem to get in sync, as they went on to drop this set 25-17, allowing the home team to come away with the win.

San Diego will return to action on Wednesday when they host Saint Mary's College in a 7 p.m. nationally televised match on ESPNU inside the friendly confines of the Jenny Craig Pavilion.
