SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Behind a two-goal effort from senior midfielder Elissa Magracia and one more goal from senior striker Stephanie Ochs, the University of San Diego women's soccer team snapped its five-game losing streak with a 3-0 West Coast Conference win over the University of San Francisco (4-9-0, 1-1-0 WCC) Sunday afternoon at Torero Stadium.
Magracia scored the only goal the Toreros (6-7-0, 1-1-0 WCC) would need in the 25th minute of action. At the 24:15 mark, freshman forward Meghan O'Rourke was on the end line of the field, and slipped a short pass to Magracia, who in turn took a touch and then punched the ball into the lower right corner of the goal to give USD the 1-0 lead.
Magracia then doubled the Toreros lead with her second goal on the afternoon at the 59:41 mark. Ochs was able to fire off a shot, that was saved by the USF goalkeeper, but the ball bounced to the feet of Magracia who in turn punched it into the back of the net to give USD a 2-0 advantage.
San Diego continued to push forward, and in the 71st minute of play were able to cement the win when Ochs scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season. The Dons fouled the Toreros from about 20 yards out, which set up a free kick, and Ochs had no trouble burying the ball into the back of the net to put the match at its final of 3-0.
Senior goalkeeper Courtney Parsons picked up her third shutout of the season, as she allowed no goals and recorded two saves. Her counterpart, Heather Haney, was saddled with the loss in goal for the Dons as she allowed three goals and recorded five saves.
The Toreros completely dominated the time of possession and rarely let the ball into their half of the field, as they outshout the visitors 19-4, and USD held a 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
The Toreros will return to action on Friday as they travel to Portland, Ore. To take on the Pilots of the University of Portland at 7 p.m.
