SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team dropped a 6-0 non-conference decision to No. 23 Coastal Carolina University Wednesday afternoon at Cunningham Stadium. With the loss, the Toreros fall to 4-11 overall, while CCU improves to 13-5.
The Chanticleers scored the first run of the game in the top of the second inning, as they took advantage of a USD fielding error to score the unearned run. Rich Witten reached on a fielding error by USD, moved to second on a wild pitch and then moved to third on a passed ball. Taylor Motter then drove in Witten with an RBI single to left field to give CCU the early 1-0 advantage.
The Toreros had their best scoring opportunity come in the fourth inning. Still trailing by one run, Kevin Muno got things started as he was hit by a pitch. Muno then stole both second and third to give USD a runner in scoring position with two outs. Muno then attempted a delayed steal of home plate, but the Chanticleers were not fooled, as they recorded the out to preserve the 1-0 lead.
CCU then went on to scored two runs in the fifth, and one run in each of the sixth, seventh and eighth innings to put the game at its final of 6-0.
