Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team dropped a 6-3 decision to Loyola Marymount University Saturday afternoon in a West Coast Conference game at Page Stadium.

The Toreros (22-30, 11-9 WCC) wasted no time in scoring, as they pushed across one run on two hits in the top of the first inning. Dillon Checkal got things started with a single to centerfield and he moved to third on Kris Bryant's double to left centerfield. Zack Kometani then drove in Checkal with an RBI sacrifice fly to left field to give USD a 1-0 lead.

LMU (30-25, 10-10 WCC) then tied the game up in the bottom of the second inning by scoring on a wild pitch, and the Lions would grab the lead with one run in the bottom of the third inning on a USD fielding error to give Loyola Marymount a 2-1 lead.

The Toreros then evened the score up in the top of the fourth inning by scoring one run on two hits. Kometani got things rolling with a single to the shortstop, and he moved to second on Corey LeVier's ground out to the pitcher. Bryan Haar then drove in Kometani with an RBI single up the middle to move the score to 2-2.

The Lions would then go on to score four runs over the next three innings before USD took back on in the top of the ninth to leave the game at its final of 6-3.

Offensively for the Toreros, Kevin Muno led the way as he went 3-for-4, while both Dillon Checkal and Kris Bryant each went 2-for-4.

Chris Jensen (3-7) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed six runs, four earned, on seven hits in 7.0 innings of work. Alex Gillingham (8-4) picked up the win for the Lions as he allowed three runs on 10 hits in 8.1 innings of work.
