Box Score

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The University of San Diego baseball team dropped its third straight contest to Loyola Marymount University, 5-4, Sunday afternoon in the season-finale for both teams.

After LMU tied the game up in the bottom of the eighth inning, the Lions loaded the bases in the bottom of the ninth inning on a single, a walk and a infield single, then Nick Truhan drove in the winning run on a single to the shortstop, to give the Lions the win and sweep over USD.

With the loss, the Toreros finish the 2011 season with an overall record of 22-31, and they finish WCC play in a three-way tie for third place with an 11-10 conference record. With the win, the Lions conclude the season with a 31-25 overall record and they are tied with USD and Portland for third with an 11-10 in the WCC.

The Toreros wasted no time in scoring as they pushed across one run in the top of the first inning. Kevin Muno led off the game with a double to left centerfield and he moved to third on an error. Kris Bryant then doubled down the left field line to score Muno and give USD a 1-0 lead.

San Diego then added to its lead in the top of the third inning by scoring three runs on four hits. Dillon Checkal got things started with a single to centerfield and he moved to second when Bryant drew a walk. Zack Kometani drove in Checkal with a double to left field, and that moved Bryant to third. Corey LeVier did the rest, as he hit a two-run single to give the Toreros a 4-0 advantage.

The Lions then got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring three runs on four hits. The LMU runs came on a Jonathan Johnson run-scoring double, a Matt Koch RBI single and a USD throwing error to move the score to 4-3.

Offensively for the Toreros, Checkal led the way as he went 2-for-4 and the only other Torero to record multiple hits was Corey LeVier who went 2-for-5 with two RBI.

James Pazos (3-5) was saddled with the loss on the mound for the Toreros, as he allowed one run on four hits in 0.2 innings of work. Chris Eusebio (2-1) picked up the win on the mound for the Lions as he allowed no runs on no hits in 1.0 innings of work.
