Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The University of San Diego men's baseball team dropped a close one at Cunningham Stadium Wednesday evening, falling to Indiana 7-6 in extra innings.

Indiana (5-11) got on the board first in the top of the first, as Dustin DeMuth scored on a wild pitch, followed by a two-out RBI double to score Chad Clark to put the Hoosiers up 2-0. San Diego (14-5) responded and cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the first after Dillon Haupt walked to bring in Andrew Daniel.

Indiana responded with two more runs in the top of the second to lead 4-1. Michael Basin led off with a single through the right side and eventually scored on Justin Cureton's single up the middle. After Cuerton stole second base, Demuth singled to plate Cuerton.

The Toreros chipped away in the bottom of the fourth and put together two runs on three hits. Austin Bailey and Connor Joe both singled and eventually scored on Louie Lechich's two-out single up the middle to cut the lead to 4-3.

San Diego put an end to Hoosiers' starting pitcher Luke Harrison's (4 IP, 7 hits, 3 ER) afternoon and took the 5-4 lead in the bottom of the fifth. After Corey LeVier led things off with a single to right field and Kris Bryant and Austin Bailey walked, AJ Robinson came through with a clutch two-out, two-RBI single through the left side.

Indiana wasted no time to even things up at 5-5 in the top of the sixth and took the lead 7-6 in the seventh after Demuth caught San Diego off guard, and stole home plate.

San Diego showed their resiliency in the eighth. Robinson led off the inning after being hit by a pitch and quickly stole second base. Austin Green then provided a huge pinch-hit single up the middle to score Robinson and tie the game at 6-6.

Indiana put together a two-out rally in the top of the 11th to secure the 7-6 victory. Chris Sukja singled to right field and eventually scored on a Andrew Daniel's throwing error.

Offensively for the Toreros, LeVier led the way, as he went 3-for-5 with one run scored, while Robinson went 1-for-2 with two RBI and one run scored. Louie Lechich went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the lead off slot.

Ryan Keller and James Pazos combined to provide seven innings of relief for San Diego without allowing an earned run. Michael Wagner was saddled with his first loss of the season and Indiana reliever Matt Deareden earned his first win of the season in three innings, allowing just one hit.

The Toreros return to action tomorrow to start a four-game home stand against Columbia. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
